Back to school time is full of excitement for a lot of kids. It also can bring along strong feelings of nervousness and anxiety – also known as Back To School Jitters.
Even if your kids don’t normally worry, this time of year can really get them anxious. Luckily, there are a few simple things to do that can help them conquer it.
3 Ways To Curb Back To School Anxiety
Let them see the school and teachers several times before school starts. Making sure your kids feel comfortable is key. It may not always be enough, but participate in every round-up and back to school night activity they offer. If there aren’t enough options and your child has a lot of anxiety and fear, I suggest calling the school to ask for a special visit. Perhaps you can have a one on one with the teacher. A good school will certainly want your kids to feel as comfortable as possible on the first day.
Remind them of times they conquered their anxiety. Telling them a story of something that happened in the past reminds them that they are brave and capable. Maybe they were nervous about preschool when they were younger but ended up having a great time every day. Or maybe they were nervous for a sleep over but the next day was so glad they did it.
Read books. Not just any books, books about school jitters. There are lots of great book for young kids like First Day Jitters or Sophie’s Squash Go To School.
And of course, as always, if their anxiety and worry is so big that they have trouble getting through each day, seek counseling. Therapists have many fantastic strategies to deal with this issue in a healthy way.
Like every year, we have to send our kids to school with lots of Kleenex® tissue to last through the year. But this year Kleenex® is showing us that empathy is the most important school supply for kids going back to school this fall.
Check out their social experiment showing how nervous kids are about back to school and that when we give kids the tools to commit to care for others, they will, confidently.
Kleenex® brand is encouraging consumers to share Kleenex® Care all year long with loved ones because all it takes is one soft tissue to make a difference.

Children are much more likely to return to school if there are friends and interesting activities and entertainment waiting for them. Therefore, it is extremely important to choose the right educational institution. I suggest you read more about it here https://ascensionschool.org/
