Last weekend my family and I went camping. I’m not a big fan of that type of thing but I suffered through and the kids had a fantastic time. That’s what it’s all about after all, isn’t it?
While we were preparing for the trip, we were looking for snacks that were easy to take along without much prep work and that wouldn’t fill our bodies up with junk. Just because we’re out and about and need something quick, doesn’t mean we should have to scarf down high-fructose corn syrup and tons of sugar. Here is what we came up with.
Easy Camping Snacks for Kids
Yoplait™ Go-Gurt™ – This is one of my kids top snacks and has never been just a breakfast food for us. They eat these things morning, noon and night. They’re easy to take with you, aren’t loaded with large amounts of sugar and give them protein, calcium and other vitamins. Oh, and they’re delicious.
Grapes – Grapes are one of the easiest fruits for us to take along with us. We bagged these up in small, individual, snack sized baggies and kept them in the cooler with the yogurt. They were ready to go anytime the kids needed a little snack.
Oranges – These are another favorite on the go snack simply because they come in their own carrying case! Plus, they don’t attract gnats like bananas do.
Cheese Sticks – My kids are crazy about cheese! I took a package of cheese sticks out of their wrapping and put them into a freezer bag to keep them cool and ready to grab as we went.
Celery and Peanut Butter – Have you seen this crazy cool idea? Just put your celery sticks in the peanut butter jar and take them along. So smart.
Dry Cereal – Toss some of your favorite low sugar cereals into a snack sized portions. Add some nuts or raisins for a little mini trail mix.
Crackers – A lot of crackers come in individual packaging which makes them easy to take on the go.
Pomegranate Seeds – I love these things and many of them come in small travel sized containers perfect for camping!
