We’re two weeks into daily Elf On The Shelf antics and let’s just be honest here, it’s already exhausting.
I agree, it’s totally worth it for the joy on my little ones faces as they search the house each morning to find him, but sometimes we need a break. Luckily there’s a trick!
If you are sick of moving your Elf already and need a little break, or if something is going to prohibit you from doing your daily Elf duties, this is epic.
All you have to do is make your Elf injured.
Everyone knows that when you have a broken leg, arm, surgery, etc. that you must spend a few days resting. Elves are no different.
This mom made her families Elf a DIY cast (signed with Santa’s name, of course) and left a note saying he fell and broke his leg. No moving for two weeks!
The next great option besides a broken limb, is an illness. Living Locust has a great printable doctors note that will get you off duty for 3 whole days. Plus there are some adorable “elf pills” he can take, too.
I also have a whole printable (that’s totally free) with excuses you can keep and sit next to the Elf in an emergency. One of them says that they ate too many candy canes and have a belly ache and can’t move!
Looking for an Elf Kit to make the whole thing altogether easier?? I made one! There are 40 easy and fun ideas, notes from the elf, activities, goodbye letter and lots more.
Happy Holidays!
Liz is a just a mom trying to keep it real about how little she sleeps, how often she gets puked on and how much she loves them. You can find her here every day writing about real-mom moments.
