So it is now 2009 and I know most of you have probably tossed that ice cream container in the trash, signed up for the gym, and if you are a smoker, hopefully broke all of your cigarettes in half, put them in a trash bag inside of another trash bag and waived to the city truck as they drive off with it.
I haven’t ever been a big fan of resolutions, although I understand the cleansing feeling we get in January, I just think that changes should be made when they are needed. The change that I made was about a couple of weeks before the new year when my husband insisted we buy a treadmill. He had wanted one for a while and I knew it would be a good investment and hopefully encourage me to walk. So the goal has been to complete a mile at a steady pace, walking fast and adding a little jog in the middle, and do this every other day. I know myself, and I know that if I set some goal of walking 2 miles every single day that it just won’t happen.
I’ve of course missed a couple of days here and there, mostly over the weekends, but I am keeping up and have increased my mileage to 1.5 miles. I think it is important to think of whatever it is that makes that work out more enjoyable, and if not enjoyable at least more appealing than a shark attack. Maybe its working out with a friend, walking on the treadmill with a magazine in front of you, buying cool new running shoes, whatever.
I have completely found what makes that walk more fun than it is a chore, and that is listening to great music. I plug the Zune into the treadmill and skip through the songs and listen to the ones that really pump me up. And it has to be playing loud. It totally works and the few times that the Zune has ran out of charge half way through, the remainder of the walk is brutal.
So I thought I would share a play list that I put together. I don’t only listen to these songs but these are great and would get you through a 30-minute stint on the treadmill. Go burn these songs on a CD (in order) and then hop on the treadmill and tell me that walk wasn’t completely different than the one you had yesterday.
