You’re so tired. It’s 1:20 in the morning and even though you feel like you just fell asleep, the baby is up crying. I’ve spent the last 5 years in this fog and the exhaustion of little to no sleep will get to you.
PS. if you’re mornings are as crazy and chaotic as mine, you’ve gotta check out Make Over Your Mornings (affiliate) <— life changer.
Moms will do whatever it takes just to squeeze in a few more minutes of sleep – even if that means sleeping on a bed that has been freshly peed on. Dads, you aren’t excluded from this, I’m sure there has been a time or two you have done some of these things yourselves, but at my house the ridiculousness is usually just completed by me.
5 Ridiculous Things Moms Do In The Middle Of The Night
Sit on the floor with your arm shoved through the bars of the crib. The only way to get her back to sleep is to rub her back for approximately 9 minutes. Am I going to stand up for that long? No, I’m going to sit down, squeeze my arm in there and rest my forehead against the hard wood until she tuckers out again. And yes, I have indeed been stuck a time or two. Luckily, I’ve never had to saw the bed apart to escape.
Lay a towel over a pee soaked bed and sleep on it. I do not have the energy at 2:35am to find the extra set of sheets, remove the soiled ones and completely make the bed. A couple of towels will take care of it enough for me to go back to sleep. There will be time to clean it in tomorrow.
Put milk in the cabinet. Whatever you have gone into the kitchen to do – get a glass of water, make a bottle – you’ll inevitably put something where it does not belong.
Move like a ninja through the house to make sure you don’t step on the squeaky part of the floor. Moms know exactly what part of the floor squeaks. I even know which step on the stairs is the loudest and I skip that one.
Climb into a crib. Sure, I’m exceeding the weight limit of this structure made for infants, but so far it hasn’t broke. Sometimes when you’re out of options, sleeping in the crib with baby just seems like a good idea.
Moms, tell me what you’ve done in the middle of the night!
Liz is a just a mom trying to keep it real about how little she sleeps, how often she gets puked on and how much she loves them. You can find her here every day writing about real-mom moments.

I have did a few of the things you mentioned! I have had spilt milk on me and be so tired and fall back asleep. I’ve let my child sleep on me in uncomfortable positions because I was afraid to wake them! All moms suffer just to get an extra minute of sleep!

I was changing my sons diaper in the middle of the night when he was approx 3 weeks old. I changed his diaper like I usually would when I fed him. I realized he was wearing two diapers during the next change. I didn’t take off the old diaper before I put on the new one on top. He was eating every hour and I hadn’t slept for more an a half an hour for the entire 3 weeks. I only did that once though. Man, I was so tired.

I slept (and ate and showered and breathed) with my boob in my oldest’s mouth for months

I changed my baby’s diaper without any light, which I’m used to doing BUT instead of just a pee diaper it was a pooh diaper! So I stuck my fingers right into the mess!!

My middle-of-the-night adventure: after a 2am feeding, during which time my baby spit up all over my pj shirt, I simply went back to sleep, gunky shirt and all! She was out like a light, didn’t seem to be bothered in the slightest by her spit up episode, so why should I??? Those are precious and scarce moments of sleep I’d have lost changing into a fresh shirt! 🙂

So definitely have done the arm through the crib a few times but what about the army crawl out of the room so the baby doesn’t see you. Lol…..done this more times than I can count with 4 little ones. And pretty all my mom friends & I have laughed about this!
