Sometimes well all feel like a bad mom.
We so easily let guilt wash over us as we pick apart all of the things we should have done better that day. Less sugar, more exercise, less television, more learning…
I should have baked that cake from scratch.
I should have bought organic.
I shouldn’t have let her get hurt.
I should have played more.
If you let yourself, you can come up with so many reasons you aren’t amazing at this mom gig.
On those days, instead of allowing those thoughts to consume you, you should remind yourself of this very important message:
I am the perfect mother.
Because you are.
Here’s why…
You are the one that created them. You were the one that was picked for them. You are the one they need. No one else, just you.
YOU are YOUR child’s perfect mother.
If your child needed Sporty Mom, they would have got Sporty Mom. But they didn’t, they got Funny Faces Mom that keeps the house lit up with laughter.
If your child needed Crafty Mom, they would have got Crafty Mom. But they didn’t, they got Book Mom that reads with silly voices and new characters every night.
They don’t need PTA Mom, Pinterest Mom, Yoga mom or anyone else you’re comparing yourself to.
Each and every possible “type” of mother is the perfect match for that child.
You are what they need.
You are all they want.
I’m the perfect mother for my kids and YOU are the perfect mother for yours.
Don’t forget it.
Liz is a just a mom trying to keep it real about how little she sleeps, how often she gets puked on and how much she loves them. You can find her here every day writing about real-mom moments.
