Is your house in serious need of some organization? If so, you aren’t alone. Many of us fight the clutter monster every day. Thankfully, the solution doesn’t involve going out and purchasing all sorts of fancy organizational supplies or spending hours or even days cleaning (although you certainly could if you wanted to!). Instead, if you can adopt a few simple habits, you will find your home looking cleaning and more organized in no time!

4 Painless Ways to Get Organized and Stay Organized
1. Declutter. The fewer things you have in your home, the fewer things you’ll have to pick up, clean and organize. If you are like most Americans, you have waaaay more stuff than you need. Go through, room by room, and ruthlessly get rid of as many things as you can. Clothes that don’t fit or that have holes, toys that your kids have outgrown, books you’ve already read, movies you’ve already watched… Then donate them, give them to a friend or pitch them. It’s amazing how much better you’ll feel afterwards!
2. Clean as You Go. Once your home has been cleaned up, you’ll want to keep it that way. The best way to keep your home consistently clean is to clean as you go. Pick up toys and shoes as you walk from one room to the next. Wash the dishes while you are making dinner. Clean the bathroom while your kids are in the tub. Get in the habit of cleaning as you go and suddenly those day-long cleaning sessions won’t be necessary anymore.
3. Get Your Family on Board. Whether your children are two or twenty-two, if they live at home, they should be helping out. While your children may protest at first, make helping out a non-negotiable way of life and it won’t be long until they help out of habit. If you are used to doing everything yourself–stop! Having your family help is not only good for them, but it will make your life so, so much easier.
4. Create Systems and Routines. When is the last time you really thought hard about brushing your teeth or tying your shoes? You don’t. You do these things so often that you don’t even think about them anymore. The same can be true for your chores. Create systems and routines (such as always doing the dishes as soon as dinner is over), and it won’t be long until you do them quickly and without thinking.
