Several bloggers share their income each month. They do it for several reasons, the main one is to show you that they are telling the truth: you CAN make good money from your blog.
I love these reports. I stalked as many as I could each month when I decided to really dive into making money. And still today I watch them to be sure there isn’t some new income revenue I could be missing out on. They are informative and I find them to be thoughtful and not at all braggy.
But I’ve been unable to share my numbers with you because I assume that’s what people will think I’m doing: bragging. Or that people might do the opposite and laugh at me for not having the high numbers some others do. All of it boils down to my insecurities.
But something else has occurred to me lately, which is that when you read my story and see that I have doubled the income I made at my old office job that you aren’t convinced. Because by not giving you any concrete evidence and sharing the real numbers I may not be helping you in the way I thought I was.
So today I’m going to share an earnings report. (affiliates included)
I may never do it again, I’m not sure. But here is what I made in the month of August:
$7,075.48
This is the amount that I actually cashed in. Many bloggers share with you what they earned, and I do track that as well – but for this I would like you to know what my bank account actually saw.
However, I have to pay Uncle Sam at the end of the year and can absolutely not spend all of that money. I also have recurring expenses like hosting, stock images, ads, etc. that all add up to around $250.
I work every day, almost always working on Saturdays and Sundays. I work in the morning, at night or anytime I have a bit of time away from my kids. The average time I spend per day is about 3 hours, which makes my hourly rate about $78. I would love to be able to work more, but I do have a kiddo with me most of the time and that makes it hard.
Here is the breakdown of my August income:
- Sponsored Posts – $2,825
- Ads – $3,406.94
- Affiliates – $162.54
- Freelance work – $681
My pageviews for August were 253,607 which is much lower than I like and I’m working hard to get them up. The summer traditionally can be a hard time for pageviews.
I was happy with my ad revenue and sponsored posts, but I would really like to increase my affiliate earnings. This is something I’ve always struggled with and I’m strategically working on at the moment.
