I’ve been making money from home (or more specifically, my couch if I’m being honest) since 2010. It didn’t start as anything more than an extra $20 here and there but it has grown into a full-time job that pays me so much more than I ever thought I could earn.
Even though for years I was just making a little extra money I could use to buy a new pair of shoes or go to dinner, it was really so much more than that. I started realizing that I could earn money on my own. (affiliates included)
I could use my computer to find ways to earn money.
The first thing I ever did was open an Etsy shop, selling digital downloads of birthday cards and birth announcements. I swear every time I got an email telling me I made a sale my heart jumped. It was empowering and totally motivating.
Since I had been running my own blog for years at that point (hardly anyone had a blog back then) I applied for a virtual assistant position. I threw my heart and soul into that application because I was so hopeful that it would turn into something big. I had my second baby at home and was convinced I could somehow earn enough money to stay home with her.
I got that job and five years later still work with those fantastic people today.
Becoming a virtual assistant changed everything.
First of all, it gave me a way to make extra money easily from my own house. I could do it while I was nursing a baby or while the kids watched a cartoon. There was no one looking over my shoulder or giving me a dress code. I was getting a steady check in the mail every month.
Second, beyond that, was it helped me to build relationships with other people in my field and to learn from some of the best. If you have a new blog and are eager to learn, becoming a virtual assistant is crazy helpful.
So how do I become a virtual assistant?
Well, it isn’t difficult, but you do need to fine tune your skills and market them. The three basic steps are:
- Determine your unique services, prices and value.
- Set up a quick webpage.
- Network and pitch new clients.
Yes – that is a very simple structure. There is so much more information breaking those down right here.
I recommend to everyone that is interested in VA work to take 30 Days or Less to Virtual Assistant Success. You can start a brand new VA business from scratch and start making REAL money in a month. I know because I did it and there are so many success stories you can read here if you don’t believe me.
What’s holding you back from starting your own business and making your own hours?
