When I first became a dog owner many years ago I was terrified of dog parks. My two fur-babies back then were super sweet to everyone they knew but seemed to be relatively unfriendly to other animals. I was nervous to go because of that and never took them.
Now that I have a friendly happy dog that loves to play with friends, I have realized just how great dog parks are. There are some really fantastic benefits.
Beneful has launched its Beneful Dream Dog Park Project that provides financial and hands on support to at least 12 dog parks in the U.S. and we are excited to partner with them for this post! The parks they have funded are some of the most incredible places.
3 Great Benefits of Dog Parks
1. Exercise. I know that’s a little obvious, but I don’t mean your normal running around the yard or on a leash sort of exercise. When you go to a dog park your dog can run play with other dogs which I have found to be the very best form of exercise for our dog. He is more tired and worn out after playing with another dog than he ever gets on a leash.
2. Socialization. Dogs are very social, some breeds are especially social, and they need to be around other animals. Getting to interact with other dogs is good for their spirit and mental health, plus it will help protect them from building up aggression. You want your dog to be excited to see other animals, not scared.
3. Comfort. I love that I know there is a place I can let my dog run free and play safely. I used to take our dogs to a large field and was constantly worried they would run off too far or encounter an animal or dog they shouldn’t. With a dog park, I know they should be safe and be surrounded by other friendly dogs that are there to have fun.

I would love to take my dogs to the park
we used to go to the dog park all the time, but my dogs are a bit older now and have slowed down a bit. We will meet up with old dog park friends and go for walks on the trails around the park!
Our frequent visits to the dog park have decreased since my dogs have gotten older and less active.
