My first blog entry on Love and Marriage was about my baby nightmares. I would have these dreams where I would have a baby and be completely unprepared for it. (Read about it here.) Never once did I get a shower, read any books, pick out a name, or even hardly speak about having a baby until holy shit, the baby is here. I really have no idea where those dreams come from. Guy and I have a really supportive family that loves kids and I know we would be overloaded with gifts and help.
Maybe it has something to do with getting older or the fact that our nephew has been staying with us and we’ve realized that kids aren’t quite as hard as we thought, but I had a different type of dream the other night. I had a dream that not only was the exact opposite of unprepared, things went so smoothly it was ridiculous.
Here is how it went:
a) I was in labor for one hour and 45 minutes.
b) I pushed only ONCE.
c) I had no ripping or tearing of any sort and did not need an episiotomy.
d) It was completely PAIN FREE.
e) The baby had a name!
f) My stomach shrank back to its normal size instantly.
Everyone else delivering their babies that day was oh so jealous of me and my unripped lady parts and super flat stomach. The only discouraging part of the dream was that at one point after birth I had some cramping and the doctor gave me some meds in my IV but accidentally doubled the dose. I was very dizzy and every so ofter I would just tip over and someone would have to sit me upright again. I hope my labor will be very much like this dream! Did anyone have a ridiculously easy labor? Or is that just physically impossible?
Liz is a just a mom trying to keep it real about how little she sleeps, how often she gets puked on and how much she loves them. You can find her here every day writing about real-mom moments.

Letters A and F were the best. Man, if only!
I don’t have any munchkins of my own yet, but I know of a couple folks that had easy labors. One mom I know didn’t use any meds, and through some natural and instinctual meditation (“oh, I just pictured this beach that we vacationed at and that really relaxed me…”) she now says that it was never really PAINFUL, just uncomfortable.
I know that’s a stretch, but I saw on a Baby Story years ago a couple where the mom went to the hospital, pushed THREE times, no drugs, and had the little one in an hour or two.
So, it can totally happen!

that’s a great dream! Ref letter C, use Dr Watts here in town and you’ll need none of that (he’s an amazing doctor)… letter F, you’re so freaking skinny you’ll bounce right back! There are definitely easy labors, my sister had 3 of them, my mom had 4 of them…. I unfortunately had 2 AWFUL labors!

What an interesting dream. I don’t know anyone who had that easy of a labor- but you never know. I have heard/read that some people actually can orgasm while giving birth. Kinda crazy.

What a great dream! I wish that is how it went in real life!

Hmm … that wouldn’t be a bad labour at all! I don’t know if anyone’s so lucky … but if it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, let me know!

Sure Kitten. That’s exactly the way it goes.

Love your blog! My labor was easy…but it’s because I had a planned c-section and never had a single contraction. Probably not what you had in mind….

You are too funny!!!
Everything you mention (except the baby having a name) were un-true for me!!!
There was ripping, there was some labor, there was some pushing, there was some pain, and the belly… sad to say, has still not been the same! (two kids later though!!!)
It’s a trip and wonderful one at that! Best of luck, and go for it. No matter how much ripping there might be… it’s true, that you forget it all 24 hours later!!!

Oh, and the “orgasm…”
I don’t think so.
