With spring comes the annual week long celebration of warmer weather known as spring break. But once you’ve moved past your “single twenties,” and have a family, the question can sometimes be what about spring break for families?
A family getaway should be low-stress, affordable, and should offer something for everyone. Sure, you could go to Disney World and that’s great. For now, let’s take a look at spring break options you may not have considered.
Spring Break Ideas for Families
Sanibel Island, Florida – Located along the Gulf of Mexico, Sanibel is known for it’s shelling. Shells are everywhere! (What kid doesn’t love looking for and collecting shells?) In addition to the grand shell-hunting experience, you’ll find incredible restaurants, hotels, fishing, boating, botanical gardens, and bike trails. Your family will love the Sanibel Sea School, where marine science educators will teach you all about marine life. It’s a hands on experience designed for every age group.
Fair Hills Resort in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota – If you’re looking to recreate family vacations you had as a kid, this could be the place. Get away from the TV, internet, and the noise of a hectic life. Located on the shores of Pelican Lake, this family owned resort offers golf, tennis, paddle boats, pony rides, sports lessons, treasure hunts, tennis, sand castle contest and lots and lots more. You can stay in a cabin from 1-4 bedrooms, where there are no telephones and TVs, so you’ll have no problem getting little mister Minecraft outdoors.
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming – With more than 3000 square miles of mountains, canyons, geysers and waterfalls, there is so much to love for families. There are of course the breathtaking hiking trails and Old Faithful, but kids will also love fishing with Mom & Dad and going horseback riding. They can even see wildlife native to the area at the Grizzly & Wolf Discover Center.
Colonial Williamsburg, Virgina – If your family is looking for a little history mixed in with plenty of fun, the historical sites & amusement parks have you covered. From the Jamestown Ferry, to the more than 20 guided tours, to carriage rides, to the incredible food – not to mention Busch Gardens, Williamsburg may be just what you’re looking for.
Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas – This family resort has everything you need to delight Mom & Dad and the kiddos all at the same time. Play together all day in the massive, indoor water park, and at night sleep in one of the themed suites that will delight the little ones. You don’t even have to leave to eat! Get your steak on, feed the kids a great pizza, and in the morning indulge in your favorite Starbucks drink.
Tyler Place Family Resort in Vermont – This incredible family-owned resort could be just what the parents ordered. Featuring nine age-specific camps for infants and kids up to 15 years old, they’ll love sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, water tubing, bass fishing cruises, and tennis courts. And at night? Everyone can gather around the crackling bonfire lake-side.
