This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Kellogg’s. We are at a really exciting and fun stage of life at our house right now; my son just learned how to read! He read his very first book from start to finish. Reading has not come easy for him and this makes me so happy. So very proud of my boy!
As a parent, watching your kids learn to do something new and hard is breathtaking. My son has always loved books but in the last year or so he has started to turn away from them. For whatever reason, he started looking at them as boring and he’d always find something else he’d rather be doing than hearing a story.
Since he has started learning to read, though, he is warming up to it again and the absolute BEST way for me to pique his interest in books is to let him choose his own. Letting him be in control of the subjects and characters he reads about works like a charm! In fact, 91 percent of kids ages 6–17 say “my favorite books are the ones that I have picked out myself.” We’ve been letting him pick out any beginning reader books he wants so that when he reads it’s something he is happy to do rather than a chore he’s being forced to complete.
I’m really excited because Kellogg’s is offering a way for me to expand my home library, exclusively at Walmart. With the purchase of any of the +100 participating products in the Fantastic Scholastic Book Giveaway, you can get a FREE Scholastic book!
