DIY Maternity Photos

We made the decision since we are having a photographer at the babies birth and then also having newborn photos taken at the house soon after, that we would forego a professional shoot and do some DIY maternity photos.

Simple DIY maternity photos

Part of me wanted to hire a professional and part of me thought it was sort of a waste, since the photos would  most likely never be something we would hang on a wall in the living room or use for Christmas cards.

(Here is the camera I use.)

I would like to document how large my belly has grown, but I’ve been doing that myself thus far and will continue to.  So, yesterday I thought maybe I’d get a bit more creative and try to take something better than mirror photos.  Here’s what I did with the camera hiding in one hand, and I think later today I’m going to get really brave and try the tripod and timer!

My DIY maternity photos turned out well, which is all a matter of perspective really.  I’m happy with them and that is what’s important.  Someone else, however, may take a few snapshots and toss them in the trash because they’re unhappy.  In that instance, if it’s something that is very important to you, then you should hire someone to assist.

Thanks for sharing. What a perfectly round little belly you have! I’m sure you are adorable in person :)The first picture in black and white is my favorite. I felt the same way about pregnancy pictures when I was pregnant and didn’t really take much at the time. Now I look back on them fondly remembering how I was feeling and just the fact that I was carrying my precious baby inside. Even if you don’t really want to or feel it necessary to take pictures, I would. You’ll never get that time back again. You’ll want visual reminders of that time. 🙂

These are great, Elizabeth!! Your belly just looks so perfect. 🙂 I didn’t have maternity photos taken either for the same reason. I didn’t know what I would ever do with them. Maybe I’ll get more creative like you did next time though.
