How kids doing simple chores make them more successful adults later in life.
We ask a lot of our kids… go to school and be kind to people, do your homework, get good grades, go to soccer practice. It can be a lot! Should we ask them to help around the house and do chores on top of everything else they have to get done?
The short answer, is absolutely.
Here’s why: This study from Harvard that has been running for over 80 years shows that there are two things that make a person successful and happy. The first one is love and the second is work ethic.
We know how to show our kids love and we worry ourselves sick over loving them enough.
But work ethic may not be as forefront in our mind as love.
Chores Are How We Build Work Ethic
The author of How To Raise An Adult explains that chores build a “pitch in” mindset that will encourage kids into adulthood to work hard. That household chores help kids build responsibility, autonomy, and perseverance.
There is no better way to raise kids with a strong work ethic than simple chores.
These tasks do not have to be overwhelmingly difficult or time-consuming. The idea is not to overload them with hours of work. The premise is to give them something that they have responsibility over; something that will not get done until they do them.
It doesn’t matter if they are tired or busy or flat out disinterested, their chores should always be done.
That is how you build work ethic and how we raise happy, successful children.
I’ve spent a lot of time refining my kids chores and have so many great ideas for you!

Yes, it really is. I believe that you do not need to educate children, you need to educate yourself and the children will repeat everything after you. After all, that’s what happens. Children see, hear, feel and understand everything. And they just want to be like their parents, so everyone repeats after them.
