Last week was Paityn’s six month check up (a few weeks late) and another round of immunizations. I hate those things, I know we all do. Why they cannot come up with an edible, liquid form I don’t know. But anyway. The doc weighed her, measured her and wrapped the tape measure around her little noggin’ and said, “Eighteen inches.” She went to add it to the graph and decided to do it again, to even get a different tape measure because surely, that wasn’t right.
“No,” I assured her, “I’m sure that’s right, she does have a really big head.”
The girl’s had a hard time fitting certain onesies over her head for months and her infant headbands always cut off her circulation. Her new favorite hat? Size 12-24 months. I give her a hard time about her over-sized skull, but she’s the prettiest baby I’ve ever seen and a big head doesn’t distract from that.
Her weight ends up being in the 50th percentile, her height in the 50-75th and her head… completely off the charts. Almost off the piece of paper she marks her progress on.
Her doctor gave me my very own paper tape measure to remeasure her head at home every two weeks and report any increases. She says she isn’t concerned, though. There is clearly nothing neurologically wrong with her, she seems perfectly healthy and is meeting all of her little baby milestones. She also has no issues with holding her head up, although she hasn’t quite mastered sitting up unassisted yet.
She just wants to make sure that her head isn’t growing too fast, that in another two weeks it hasn’t grown an extra inch. If it does, we’ll get some xray’s and see what is going on. For now, we’ll just cut extra large holes in her shirts. Just kidding.

I jokingly say my son has a giant head too. It was always big and had a hard time fitting through clothes as well. The good news is that he has grown into it at almost 5 years old ;). She is adorable and getting so big!
