Peppermint Hot Chocolate is a super simple Christmas drink with just four ingredients.
Isn’t hot cocoa on a cold and snowy winter day just the best? I don’t know if my kids actually even like the drink itself or if they are more excited to use a coffee mug and eat marshmallows off the top. Haha!

Peppermint Hot Chocolate
The thing is, I really dislike the hot cocoa mixes that come in the packets. They have never had enough chocolate flavor and to me, are just flat out not nearly as good as homemade.
Luckily, making it from scratch is incredibly easy. For this recipe, we’re making it a peppermint flavor.

Ingredients You Will Need
- Chocolate Chips. Grab the milk chocolate morsels, not the semi-sweet chips.
- Milk. I use whole milk in hot cocoa but if you have something else at home it will work fine.
- Peppermint Extract. You can find this in the baking aisle where you would buy vanilla.
- Sugar.
How To Make Peppermint Hot Chocolate
I told you this was incredibly easy, and I meant it. Essentially, you are just going to heat the ingredients until they are all melted together.
- Heat the milk.
- Add in chocolate chips and continue to heat, stirring the whole time.
- Add in the sugar and peppermint.
- Pour into cups and top it off with marshmallow and a candy cane!

How Much Peppermint Extract To Add To Hot Chocolate
This is an often asked question! For one cup of hot cocoa I put in 1 teaspoon of peppermint. What you could do, is start with half a teaspoon and taste test it. Then, add more in by the half tsp. until you have the flavor you like. Some of us like a slight peppermint flavor and some of us like it really bold. Your choice!
