I feel like we don’t make the news all that much. We live in the midwest, home of just about nothing except for sunflowers and Amelia Earhart. It’s a snooze fest over here most days.

But the flu epidemic that has had me incessantly feeling my kids head for fever and going through gallons of Clorox on a weekly basis is giving us a spot in the news this week. Lucky us.

This State Is The Sickest With The Flu and Crap, I Live Here

As of Wednesday, the state that is “sickest with the flu” is Kansas.

The national illness level is at 0.84 percent and we are at 1% with over 29,000 people sick. (source)

Coming in second is Oklahoma, then Texas, then Missouri. So if you live in the midwest, just go ahead and put on a surgical mask now.

If you’re wondering, no, so far we have not been infected with any strains of Influenza yet. Everyday we wake up without a fever and body aches is a good day around here. Our doctor says she’s seen so much flu that it’s not a matter of if we’ll get it but when.

We are doing all the things they say to do which is pretty much just wash your hands and cross your fingers. If we dodge it, it will most likely be from flat out luck.

So to all the other mid-westerners out there, I’m wishing you the best of luck from the inside of my disinfected home where I will stay as often as I can. See you next summer.
