Moms, you have boots on the ground on the frontlines of parenthood and are the unsung hero of every family. There are so many things you should be told every day of your life, but you may not hear them. I want to take a minute to make sure you know exactly how incredible you truly are.
10 Powerful Things Every Mom Needs To Hear
You are smart. Sure, depending upon how sleep deprived you are, you may forget your own birthday. And yeah… the last good book you read was, The Day the Crayons Came Home. But, beneath the layers of snot & Elmer’s glue & spit-up peas, you are still you. Besides, who else but a Mom is smart enough to be a self-taught nurse, teacher, speech therapist, and activities director? Ummm, no one.
You are doing a great job. It’s okay that your son has a perpetual scratch on his nose because he won’t stop picking at a scab. It’s okay that your daughter believes displaying her mad spit bubble skills is the best way to entertain guests. You are present and loving and your best is THE best. You deserve a trophy.
You are doing important work. The President of the United States runs the most powerful country in the free world and as of this writing, not a single POTUS has ever created a human being. There is always a “first lady” in the background who had to do that for them. You are the first lady of your house and without you and others like you, there would be no one to vote anyone into office. Ever.
You are selfless. You haven’t eaten an uninterrupted meal from start to finish since your first baby arrived. Your kids always get the last cookie, the last bite of macaroni, and enjoy limitless, wonderfully warm baths. Meanwhile you get to lick to Oreo dust off your fingers, suck on the wooden spoon you used to stir the mac ‘n cheese, and if you actually get the tub to yourself it will be exactly 10.2 seconds before someone bursts in screaming. Bless your heart.
You are appreciated. Your kids may not have the necessary brain development to say “thank you” until they are approximately 30-years-old, but know that you really are appreciated. Just consider their little hugs and kisses their thank you cards.
You are creating a legacy. Long after you are gone your children and grandchildren will still have your nose, your sense of humor, your talent for making chocolate chip pancakes, and your kind heart. That’s powerful stuff to pass down from generation to generation.
You should feel good about asking for help. If no man is an island then Moms shouldn’t be ship-wrecked on a deserted shore, refusing to wave down the circling helicopter above. You’ll be stronger and better and more loving if you ask for and receive help. You deserve it, and so do your kids.
You need to slow down. Seriously. If all you’re doing is cleaning up after the kids, refereeing fights, and doing every kid’s Pinterest craft that exists, you’re going to miss the moments that make Mommyhood worth it. Take a minute to snap a mental picture of the tiny fingerprint on the window before you wipe it away. Sit in silence and marvel as you watch your little humans learn how to navigate relationships without having Mom jump in to fix it.There are so many beautiful things that you’ll someday wish you’d committed to memory.
You need to put yourself first. I don’t mean you should go out for martinis with the girls instead of throwing a birthday party for your preschooler. I mean that if you are continually pouring out all you have on your family, you are going to run dry. You have to know it’s imperative to fill yourself up with something outside of parenting, or you’ll have nothing to offer your kids.
You are beautiful. It doesn’t matter that you’ve worn the same sweatshirt for 3 days, or that your hair has been in a ponytail so long it could stay that way even without a ponytail holder. The qualities you have are beauty defined. Never forget that.
Mom, You are enough and you can create a more peaceful family life right now. The Abundant Mama Ecourse will help. There are many ways to raise a happy, thriving child. But they all begin with a happy mama.
