I’m running on fumes this week. Sleep has been light for everyone here and I can’t quite put my finger on why. Brady is such an inconsistent sleeper. Sometimes he is amazing, sleeps like a log from bed time ’til morning with no issues. Other times he is up every few hours whining and crying. For instance, Friday night he slept from 10:30pm-8:45a without a hitch and then Saturday he was up four different times. No rhyme, no reason.
So I went back to my old routine (that I haven’t talked about here yet) of establishing that once you lay down in bed you do not get back up until morning. Sunday night was an ok night, not perfection but decent. Then Monday night came and he refused to sleep. REFUSED. He slept from 9:30pm-3:00am and then would just not go back to sleep. Finally he went back to sleep for a few hours at 6:00am.
Last night he went down for about 45 minutes before waking up with a fever. Once I got it to break he screamed and screamed for some reason. Since I broke it with just one dose of tylenol and a wet rag and since it didn’t come back I figured it must be teething. But after investigating his mouth this morning and seeing no signs of any new teeth I’m stumped.
In addition to no slumber, yesterday he pooped all over our bedroom floor. He was running naked while I tracked down some clothes for him and I heard a grunt. Crud. I picked up the poo and turned the corner and saw more and then more and then more. A little trail of baby poop.
But as always in life, there was comic relief. During the first sleepless night as I’m painstakingly and very annoyingly rocking Brady for the third hour, Guy got up to use the restroom and I hear, “Hooray! You got a double!” He had kicked a toy that I had in the bathroom to entertain Brady while I showered. I couldn’t help but laugh.
Then tonight after dinner I stripped off Brady’s dirty clothes and we were playing for a few minutes before bath time. He turned his head and he had a noodle in his hair. Hilarious.
Between all of that and the couch surfing he’s been trying out (as in standing on the couch hands free and laughing) I’m seriously due for a good night’s sleep. Cross your fingers for me?

Oh my. I understand the shoddy sleep thing like WHOA. And I hope it gets better for you so soon. Carter was sleeping through the night since he was 2 months old. TWO MONTHS. And then he got sick last month? And it’s been hell ever since. Like B, he’ll have some solid nights where he’s down from 7pm-6:30am. But more than that? He’s up EVERY NIGHT at 3am. Awake. Wants to play. Cries and cries. So I bring him into our bed and he crawls around for AN HOUR AND A HALF before falling back asleep at 5am, only to wake up for the day at 6am. WHAT GIVES?
Poor boys… and poor Mamas! Let me know if you learn the secret, okay? 🙂
