American Idol Pretend Play

kid activities

Does your family watch American Idol?  The 14th season just premiered on Wednesday, Jan 7 and as usual, it did not disappoint!  I think it is such a fun show to watch as a family. You can all cheer on your favorite together or even make it a friendly competition if you aren’t rooting for the same person.
We thought it would be fun to play American Idol at home!

Brady and Paityn have a musical nature. They adore singing, dancing and instruments. Suggesting we play American Idol was a no brainer with them.
The setup was so simple.  We used an art desk for the judge to sit at and our little microphone stand for the contestant. We used shipping labels cut in half as their contestant badge and wrote a number on it with a marker. Then, we had a piece of yellow construction paper for the golden ticket to Hollywood.

They each took turns singing the song of their choice and deciding if the other should make it to Hollywood or not. It was so much fun.
It’s really inspiring to watch a show that has the power to change someone’s life and give them a chance to succeed at something they’re great it. We listen to stars like Carrie Underwood on the radio and say, “She started on American Idol!”

This week’s episode will be featuring my city – Kansas City!  There is a really sweet story on this episode when a father who is hearing-impaired receives a new hearing aid and gets to hear his daughter sing for the very first time. American Idol is on Wednesdays and Thursdays 8/7 on FOX!
