My daughter is a princess fanatic. Like a lot of little girls I know, she is crazy for anything pink and sparkly, gold and glittery. It’s as if there was nothing I could have done to stop it. She was born loving all the symbolic girly things.
While I was pregnant with her, I read a book bashing the obsession our daughters have with princesses and I don’t agree. There are several reasons I have to encourage my girl to play with all her favorite dolls.
Princesses Are Kind.
Have you ever heard of a mean princess? I haven’t. All of the main characters our girls idolize are the epitome of kindness. They are good to their friends, animals, even their enemies and people that don’t treat them well. I can watch my daughter as she plays pretend and see that characteristic coming through in her dialogue. It’s beautiful.
They are full of other great characteristics as well like, compassion, loyalty, strength, respect, intelligence and optimism.
Princesses Are Brave.
I adore the idea that most princesses are standing up for something they believe in strongly. They are willing to stand strong for their beliefs and what is right in the world. I want my daughter to always know that no matter how small she may be or how defeated she may feel, she always has a choice.
