These eyelash mites are freaking gross and we’ve all probably got them.
A few years ago someone mentioned the need to get rid of the mites living in our mascara. I was like yeah, ok, crazy. I’m looking right at my mascara and I don’t see anything.
Flash forward to today where you can’t go a day without reading about these nasty little bugs walking all over our eyes RIGHT. NOW.
I just got the shivers. Blah.
Eyelash mites are tiny mites that live in or near hair follicles of mammals. They feed on dead skin and even burrow into the hair follicle.
The worst part? 95% of us have them!
They usually don’t cause you much problems but they can cause some redness and irritation.
But more importantly, HOW DO I KEEP THEM OFF?
There are a few things we can do to get them off and keep ’em gone.
1. Wash your eye makeup off every night. I’m lazy and don’t usually do this but I’m about to start. This is my favorite eye makeup remover.
Bye Bye Makeup™ 3-in-1 Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm
2. You can kill them with tea tree oil. I wouldn’t go putting tea tree oil right on your eyeball but you can dilute some with coconut oil and rub it on. There are also some tea tree oil beauty products that work great.
Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash
So don’t panic. All you need to do is keep your face washed and take your mascara off every night and you’ll be just fine.

Had a weird skin flare-up along my hairline that I originally thought was just product buildup, but it got worse after using a new shampoo. That sent me down a rabbit hole about scalp hygiene, oil balance, and even stuff like eyelash mites — things I didn’t know could throw off your whole routine. Started looking at brands that claimed to be gentle but still effective. What made the biggest difference was going through bumble and bumble reviews where people were brutally honest about how their hair and skin responded. Some had great results with volume and scalp health, others had issues with dryness or fragrance sensitivity. Helped figure out which formulas to try and which to completely avoid based on real use, not just marketing.
