Ahhh, winter break. That glorious time of year when the kids are off of school and the possibilities are endless. How will your kids spend their winter break this year? Make sure their time is well spent with these four tips for making the most of your kids’ winter break.
How to Make the Most of Winter Break
1. Schedule Activities in Advance. Go into winter break without a plan and the two weeks are likely to fly right by in a flurry of late mornings, too many cartoons and not enough memorable fun. If you want to make the most of your kids’ winter break, plan fun activities in advance. Whether you want to go to a kids’ museum, you want to bake cookies together or you want to visit some friends or relatives you don’t see often enough, plan ahead and pencil it in.
2. Spend Time Together as a Family. Of course, just choosing activities in advance may not be enough. If your children are old enough to make their own plans with their friends, you’ll want to make sure your schedule time together as a family as well. Whether that is a family movie night, a sledding trip, a fun craft or a visit to the local ice skating rink, make sure you find some time for fun activities you can do as a family.
3. Make Time for Learning. The kids may be off of school, but that doesn’t mean that the learning has to stop altogether. Winter break is the perfect time to review any concepts that your children are falling behind on, as well as to help them get ahead. Even if your children’s teacher doesn’t send homework home, there are still plenty of fun, easy and free ways you can learn at home. Visit a museum, the library or the fire station. Read books, watch educational movies and do fun science experiments you can find on Pinterest.
4. Relax and Unwind. While winter break is often the perfect opportunity to have fun with your kids, it’s also a great time to relax and recharge before the new year. In addition to all the fun activities you have planned, schedule in some downtime when you can intentionally take care of yourself and your family. Catch up on sleep, read that book you never seem to get around to, and take some time to reflect on the marriage and parenting resolutions you will make for the new year.
