When I was a little girl, before every big event or holiday I would ask my mom for what I called “Barbie Hair.” After my evening bath she would braid my hair into a bunch of tiny braids that would dry in place overnight. I would wake up, take the ponytail holders out and my hair would be wavy and crimped. It was essentially today’s version of beach waves. It was especially important we had this hairdo in place for Christmas! Here I am with my fancy hair at a birthday one year. (I’m on the left.)
I thought it would be sweet to start this tradition with my own daughter, now that she is getting older and her hair has grown to a point she can have long braids. Sure, I could just use a wave iron or even a curling iron but that isn’t as fun! Waking up to unveil your awesome hair is just way more exciting than sitting under a curling iron for 30 minutes.
The fun thing is that your braiding skills can be as sub-par as mine. The kids have no idea and the waves come out awesome whether you are great at braids or not.
Garnier® Whole Blends™ Color Care Shampoo with Argan Oil & Cranberry extracts is my new favorite. They are paraben-free and gentle to use every day, even on my little girl’s hair. While she (of course) does not have color treated hair like I do, it makes her hair shine and smell amazing. I love the cranberry scent this time of year. For me, it helps keep my color intact longer.
Another great thing I love about the Garnier® Whole Blends™ hair care line is that the bottles are made of recyclable PET plastic with 30% Post-Consumer Recycled waste and is produced in a facility committed to sustainability, reducing its waste and water consumption per unit by approximately 58% and 47% respectively, since 2005.
It’s good for your hair, and good for the world.

Liz is a just a mom trying to keep it real about how little she sleeps, how often she gets puked on and how much she loves them. You can find her here every day writing about real-mom moments.

I don’t really have a holiday hair tradition….but it seems this time of year is the only time I put my hair up under a warm hat when we go out and don’t worry about messing it up.
