The Coolest Introductory Cell Phone for Kids

parenting

Thanks to Palm for sponsoring this post.

If you’re looking for the best cell phone for kids and aren’t sure where to turn, I’ve got a great solution to share with you today.

We found a safe cell phone with a simple, affordable plan that fit all of my mom requirements.

Best Cell Phone for Kids - How we picked a phone that was affordable, tough and safe. Save

My kiddos have been asking for a few years now, “When can we get a cell phone?!?” Many of their friends have them for various reasons and they’ve been eager to have one as well.

The answer I give every time is they will get a cell phone when they need one.

I haven’t set a particular age or any requirements based on responsibility. I just knew that once the need presented itself, I would get them one. It seemed easy to me.

Should Kids Have Cell Phones?

Last week the new park up the street from us finished construction and a few of my sons friends wanted to go play basketball. I’ve never left him alone like that without an adult watching over him, but he’s ten now and was only walking distance away from home, so I decided to allow it.

I gave him 45 minutes before I would come back to pick him up and for that entire time I was a mess!

He had no way to communicate with me if he needed to. What if all of his friends left him? What if he got hurt? I felt like I had just thrown him to the wolves.

Of course he was fine, had a lot of fun and didn’t want to leave, but it was then that I thought, yep, it might be time these kids get a cell phone.

But, I had several requirements when looking for the best cell phone for kids.

  1. This would be a phone that is only used for calling and texting us when they are home alone or away from us.
  2. It would not be a huge added monthly expense or put me in a long-term contract.
  3. The phone would be tough and not easily broken. (Delicate is not a word I’d use to describe these munchkins.)
  4. I could have parental controls to watch what they’re doing.

My daughter is just 7, she is very responsible but I’m nervous with all that’s going on in the world. She’s a bright young lady and I would love to give this to her! Thank you for the opportunity’

I’d love to have on of these. It would help my mom stay in touch with my son when he wants to call him and I’m not hands free or if he’s over someone elses house.

My kids 8 and 10 would definitely love this phone. They are home doing virtual school and keep in touch with their school friends through text and messenger. It would be nice if they could do it on their own phone instead of mine but I would still be able to track their activity.

I volunteer with the homeless and domestic violence.. I could definitely use this for work. I love it’s portability. I normally only use the simplest apps anyway, and I can just easily slip it in my pocket.

this phone sounds like a dream – I believe this would be perfect for our little girl.
One thing (along with a good screen protector) that I like is that it is not so big; that it is at a size the kiddos can handle easily.
