If you and your kids are into all things galaxy at the moment, they are going to adore this fun craft. My two have been really excited about space lately – the planets, the sun, the moon… and that combined with this totally awesome trend of galaxy-everything, we decided to make a little galaxy that would fit in their pocket!

This is a pretty simple craft for little ones. Sure, it’s a bit messy, but that’s why we took it outside and changed into our painting clothes! We ended up making all sorts of painted rocks by the time it was all over – not just galaxy rocks. My son painted one for his dad in his favorite colors… my daughter kept making all pink… it was a lot of fun.

First thing you need to do is gather your paint find some rocks. Acrylic paint is best (which is why I was certain I got them out of their good clothes before we started.) We chose a sparkly black and a pink, purple, teal and blue. You’ll also need a few sponge brushes and glitter.

First, paint your rocks in all black. If you have older kids that have the patience to wait, go ahead and let it dry before moving on. (If they are little like mine, just glob paint on haphazardly and hope for the best.)

Then, sponge on different colors onto the rocks, starting with the darker colors first. My kids ended up having a great idea of mixing all the colors first then dabbing it on which worked pretty well. When the coloring is to your liking, sprinkle on some glitter.

We liked the ones that looked mostly black because they looked kind of like moon rocks which is cool.

Once they’re dry, your kiddos can keep the galaxy with them wherever they go.
