I’m always a little self-conscious about something. There is always a reason for me to hide behind the camera and never get in front of it. It’s easy to do after all, because I’m the photographer in the family. It’s a great way to never have to actually be in a photo – just keep taking pictures. I have been purposely putting off new family photos, even though my youngest was a baby the last time they were done. (She turns four next month.) I keep waiting for one more “thing” to be complete. To whiten my teeth, grow my hair out, lose a few pounds, get a spray tan…

But when I look around at the images hanging in frames around my home, I realize quickly what is really important about them: it is the beauty of our family’s love for one another. The way we giggle at the fake smiles our kids make when the say “cheese” and the way my son squeezes me so hard it almost hurts when he hugs me.     It is the small things that make a big difference–you’re so right! For me, one small thing I try to do every day is get outside, even if it’s just walking the dog up the driveway to the mailbox. It keeps me in touch with the season, knowing what birds are singing, which flowers are blooming, or even just the angle of the sunlight.
