How to Make Sugared Cranberries
Sugared cranberries are perfect for garnishing desserts like cakes and pies or for creating a festive garland. They also make a fun addition to holiday drinks like sparkling water or champagne cocktails.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 cup fresh cranberries
- 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions:
- Prep the Cranberries: Rinse the cranberries under cold water and remove any that are bruised or soft. Set them aside to dry on a paper towel.
- Make A Simple Syrup: Combine the 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of sugar in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar completely dissolves. Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature.
- Coat the Cranberries: Once the syrup has cooled, add the cranberries to the saucepan. Stir gently to coat the berries evenly with the syrup. Let them sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the syrup.
- Sugar the Cranberries: Pour the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar into a shallow bowl. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cranberries from the syrup to the sugar, rolling each berry to coat it thoroughly.
- Dry and Set: Spread the sugared cranberries onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them dry for 1-2 hours. This will allow the sugar to crystallize and give them that signature sparkle.
