If you are looking for a new nighttime essential oil blend for sleep you are going to love this. One of my favorite things to talk about is helping kids sleep better. After having my first baby who developed really awful sleeping habits (all of which were my fault) and a second who has been sleeping soundly since infancy, I know a trick or two.
I’ve been using the power of essential oils to help them rest and relax for a few years and here is a new blend I created recently.
DIY Goodnight Blend
This is so easy to make, so if you’ve never made a blend before, don’t be nervous. The oils I’m using for this are Lavender, Peace & Calming and Frankincense. Besides those, you’ll also need a carrier oil (I used grapeseed oil) a roller bottle and a plastic pipette.
Fill your roller bottle with carrier oil about a 2/3 of the way full, then start adding in your oils. To do this I take the top off and use my pipette to draw the correct amount out. You will use:
- 3 drops of Frankincense (this oils helps alleviate nervous energy)
- 5 drops of Peace & Calming (like it’s name suggests, this is very calming and promotes rest)
- 5 drops of Lavender (helps you to relax and unwind)
Put the top back on the bottle and shake it up!

I wasn’t quite sure how this would smell because I hadn’t used these three together before but it smells SO good. I just love it. It’s a really relaxing scent. At bedtime I’m putting this on the bottoms of the kids feet and also a little on the back of their necks.
If you want to purchase any of these oils for yourself you can become a customer here (totally free) and even sign-up as a wholesale member and get 11 essential oils, a diffuser and a bunch of other goodies for only $160. I have more info for you here if you want it!

Thank you for the idea! I’m going to try it. As a mother of six who has always struggled with a good bedtime routine, I’m hoping this will work.

Peace & Calming is a blend of ylang ylang, orange, tangerine, patchouli and blue tansy – so I would be looking for an oil that has all or most of those oils.
OR, any blend that is listed as “calming”. You could give one of those a try and see if it works comparably.

Cedarwood actually works better than the frankincense in that blend. I make a homemade body butter base and use 1 cup of the base and 15 drops each of Cedarwood, Peace and Calming and Lavender. It goes on our big toes before bed. Amazing!!!

how do you make the bodybutter base please
thanks mary

I use equal amounts of Lavender, Peace and Calming and Cedarwood either in the diffuser (hour before bed) and / or topically at bedtime. Works every time for me.

In the “Good Night Sleep Tight” roll-on recipe, you say: “Fill your roller bottle with carrier oil about a 2/3 of the way full.” Just wondering if you were using a 5 mL or 10 mL bottle.

Because of the sweat glands, the feet are the least permeable. For little ones, try the upper back where they cannot reach but the skin is thin and receptive. Apply, cover and it will absorb nicely. Nearer to the respiratory system so the child is also breathing in the blend, it crosses the blood brain barrier entering the limbic system and going to work.
