In 19 days Guy and I will have been married for a whole entire year. Wow, it has gone by so fast. This time last year I was running around in circles tying up this loose end and that, trying to savor every last little bit of our time as “engaged”. This time as our first year winds down and I start considering all the possibilities that may come in our second year of marriage, I am running around trying to figure out how to celebrate this date. As much as I love traveling and seeing and doing different things, I really wanted our anniversary to be a time where we stop, turn of the phones and tv’s, relax and reflect on our first year. I wanted to get out of our house and away from our normal every day existence and seclude ourselves somewhere peaceful, scenic and quiet. That really didn’t seem so hard to accomplish.
I was so wrong.
Every house I have looked at renting for the weekend is either already taken or incredibly over priced since our anniversary falls on labor day, basically the last summer weekend of the season. If I had it my way, Guy and I would pack up the dogs on Friday afternoon and drive down here, where we would let them run and sniff and investigate while we sat on the porch at sunset. But alas, this house is rented out only by the week and is much too expensive.
So now what? I really can’t imagine spending our anniversary in a crowded section of the Olive Garden or waiting in a teenage filled line at the movie theater. We just cannot come up with a single thing to do. So here I am, asking for your assistance. Does anyone have any advice as to what to do for our anniversary or where to look for some inspiration?

Have you ever thought about going to a bed & breakfast? If you google that there are a lot around and some are super nice and its a great getaway.
Its so sweet your thoughts on your first anniversary… i think a day/nite getaway is perfect for you guys! Enjoy.. take pics! xxoo
I agree with Devin’s mom – try for a bed and breakfast. Perhaps not a whole house but it could still make for a nice getaway!
I second the idea of a bed and breakfast, that’s what I’m planning now for the hubbies and my first anniversary. I’m hoping to splurge on breakfast in bed too!
We also went the Bed & Breakfast route, and I can’t recommend it enough! Most cater to honeymoon or anniversary couples, so there’s lots of romantic possibilities. 😉
I don’t know, but I want to hear what you decide to do. We were going to Houston (our first anniversary is in November and we didn’t get a honeymoon), but there is no way I can leave my Cameron. 🙂
Is there a spa you could go to? Get a couple’s massage, then go out for a nice dinner, then maybe find a nice hotel to stay at?
I’m probably not much help. I was 2 months pregnant on my 1st anniversary (and very sick I might add). LOL
Bed & Breakfast is a great idea! What about looking on VRBO?? Or checking out last minute deals on Expedia?
We spent our first anniversary eating breakfast at the place where we held our Farewell brunch, walking around NYC and then eating dinner at the place where we held our wedding. It was perfect. Why not try to re-live some moment from your wedding? I don’t know about you, but we barely remembered anything about that night, so it was nice to have a “re-do” with just us.
Oh gosh, this is reminding me of ours on sept 20th. I have NO CLUEEE! I like their ideas of a bed and breakfast. That sounds nice:)
For our first anniversary, we did turn off our phones and spent the whole day together with our pooch. We went to where our wedding had taken place. The real celebration came at night when we decided to splurge on a micheline starred restaraunt and eat fine dining (real fine dining) for the first time in our lives. We are total food network/Top Chef geeks so it was a great adventure. It may end up being a tradition.
A bed and breakfast might be the perfect solution. They can be very relaxing. Enjoy either way with whatever you do!
I hope you can figure something out. I would love to visit a bed and breakfast sometime. Let us know what you figure out!
I just wanted to let you know i have a giveaway going on at my blog this week! I hope you’ll come and check it out!
I hate to sound like a broken record but yes, the Bed & Breakfast idea is great! My husband and I always love the quaint little houses that make us feel like we’re really away. Even when we go to one that’s one town over. Congrats on your first year!
Do some research and find an intimate restaurant that will let you eat in a secluded area or even in a private room. I like the bed and breakfast idea. I have never stayed in one though and am not sure.
